Why put off until tomorrow, what can be done today?
Last evening I lugged my laptop computer from my office to the car, accompanied by a huge envelope of unfinished spreadsheets, unanswered email, and "to be addressed" customer escalation letters. Why? Because I thought I might work from home on Friday and "catch up" without the in-office interruptions. But as it would happen, I started my morning with a pre-scheduled doctor's appointment...
I saw Dr. Beth Anglin, a (ahem...)breast specialist. Yes, I had discoverd a couple of enlarged cysts that, upon radiology, revealed some "suspicious" deposits that needed a surgical consult. So, "consulting we will go...." and I saw Dr. Anglin. After a review of numerous mammography films and ultrasound results, she explained to me that a cyst "needle aspiration" and "biopsy" were necessary...she would consult with CIGNA to be sure they would cover the procedure.
Upon returning with the "A-OK" from CIGNA, she proceeded to....NOT schedule another appointment, but lead me to the surgical room, and completed the procedure right then and there, in her office, without putting me to sleep (but yes, with lots of local anesthetic). YIKES! I was freaked out somewhat, but yet happy to get it done right away without the anticipation of a future visit to the clinic.
The procedure really wasn't bad; I really experienced very little pain. But, watching the procedure on the ultrasound monitor affected my imagination, my anxiety level, and my emotional state of mind...I shouldn't have watched! But I did, and my body reacted by becoming light headed, queasy, shaky, increased vital signs, and clammy cold sweats! Whew! Nothing like a little drama for a Friday morning! Needless to say, I relaxed on the exam table for awhile after the procedure, and regained my composure before driving myself home!!
Results? Dr. Anglin was encouraged by what she "aspirated" and the biopsy sample appears to be benign. They never promise anything; pathology results should be available on Monday. Your prayers are coveted!
I rested at home; worked for awhile (although I did not open the envelope of deliverables I lugged home); and am now ready to start my weekend.
To the women in my life: Please watch your caffeine levels; do not smoke (so glad I never picked up that habit); and get routine well-woman check-ups, including a colonoscopy if you are 50 or older (I did it...really not bad except for the "cleansing" routine the day before...ahem....).
My heartfelt love to those who are dear to me.
